“The works presented belong to Replicas, a series of works based on hand-carved ornamental wooden objects, examples of local traditional craft. With the outlines as the sole reference to the originals, the objects are only copies in a broad sense, offering a similarly peculiar take on the relationship between old and new, traditional craft and art as well as craftsmanship and labour in art.” >> “Τα έργα που παρουσιάζονται ανήκουν στις Ρέπλικες, μια σειρά βασισμένη σε διακοσμητικά ξυλόγλυπτα αντικείμενα λαικής τέχνης. Αντίγραφα των πρωτοτύπων κατά μια ευρεία έννοια μόνο, καθώς η μόνη αναφορά σε αυτά είναι το περίγραμμα που διατηρείται, τα γλυπτά διαχειρίζονται με έναν παρόμοιο ιδιότυπο τρόπο τη σχέση μεταξύ παλιού και νέου, λαικής και σύγχρονης τέχνης, δεξιοτεχνίας και εργασίας.”

¨Το έργο Helga είναι από τη σειρά Bankers 2011. Ιούνιος  1944 κατά την απόβαση  στην Νορμανδία : το ναζιστικό πυροβολικό είχε χωρίσει την παραλία σε τομείς με κωδικοποιημένα γυναικεία ονόματα.  Οταν οι αμυνόμενοι ζητούσαν υποστήριξη από το πυροβολικό η διαταγή ήταν “5 rounds Helga, 3 rounds Helena” και ούτω καθεξής . Στο έργο οι συντεταγμένες  αυτών των κωδικοποιημένων ονομάτων είναι ακριβώς στη θέση των ναζιστικών οχυρών.

This work has been created recently as part of a new photographic series that is still in progress. This new body of works is formed by diptychs – image and text – and focuses on the kind of relations that I understand as being vacillating and ambiguous such as the love-hate relationship between children and their parents, the fear-seduction/attraction relation between man and death, and the truth-lie relation of photography with reality. This approach is highlighted by the dynamic (un)balance that exists in the work itself between the text and the photograph. The conscientious viewer feels almost compelled to read the text in order to «read through»  the image while that same image –similar to an arrogant woman – invites him by means of her aesthetic quality and descriptive capacity to look and scrutinise her per se, without paying attention to explanatory texts. At the same time, the obvious experiential and autobiographical content of the work clearly aims to sentimentally engage and emotionally charge the viewer, thus contributing to the creation of a koinos topos (common place) a meeting place for myth, reality and lived experience.

Φαντάζομαι, πως αν τα σχεδιάσω υπομονετικά θα μπορέσω να τα καταλάβω. Μάλλον τώρα «εικόνα» και «αλήθεια» έχουν μπερδευτεί περισσότερο. Το τοπίο εισβάλει μέσα στο δωμάτιο.”
